Lokivetmab
Lokivetmab is a **caninized monoclonal antibody (mAb)** specifically designed to target and neutralize **canine interleukin-31 (IL-31)**. It is primarily used for the treatment of clinical manifestations of **atopic dermatitis** in dogs, providing significant relief from pruritus (itching) and exhibiting anti-inflammatory properties. > **Clinical Pearl:** As a highly targeted biological therapy, lokivetmab does not have the broad immunosuppressive side effect profile associated with traditional therapies like corticosteroids or cyclosporine.
Mecanismo: Lokivetmab specifically binds to and neutralizes **canine interleukin-31 (IL-31)**, a key cytokine involved in the itch sensation. * **IL-31** → Blocked from binding to its co-receptor * **Cell signalling** → Inhibited * **Result** → Relief from atopic dermatitis-related pruritus and reduction of inflammation.

Contraindicaciones
- Known hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Use in species other than dogs
Efectos adversos
- Generally well tolerated
- Rare hypersensitivity reactions or injection site pain
Monitorización
- Clinical response to pruritus and skin inflammation
- Signs of hypersensitivity post-injection
Sobredosis
Overdoses are generally well tolerated due to the targeted nature of the monoclonal antibody, though the risk of immune-mediated reactions may theoretically increase. No specific antidote is required; treat symptomatically if adverse effects occur.
