Resumen
El inmunomodulador de fracción de pared celular micobacteriana es un agente biológico utilizado en medicina veterinaria para estimular el sistema inmunitario del paciente contra tumores e infecciones específicas.
- En perros, se utiliza como inyección de infiltración local para la inmunoterapia de tumores mamarios mixtos y adenocarcinomas mamarios.
- En caballos, se utiliza para el tratamiento de sarcoides (infiltración local), el Complejo de Enfermedad Respiratoria Equina (ERDC) mediante inyección IV, y la metritis equina causada por Streptococcus zooepidemicus (IV o intrauterina).
Perla clínica: Debido a que es un inmunomodulador, su eficacia depende totalmente de que el paciente tenga un sistema inmunitario funcional. Si bien la eficacia local (intratumoral) está documentada, la eficacia sistémica no está tan bien establecida.
Mecanismo de acción
The drug exerts a non-specific immune stimulatory effect, primarily targeting cell-mediated immune mechanisms and macrophage activation.
- Macrophage activation → Release of Interleukin-1 (IL-1) → Cascade of immune responses targeting abnormal cells (tumors) or pathogens.
- Requires a competent, functional immune system to be effective.

Precauciones
Patients receiving cortisone or ACTH may not respond to treatment due to immunosuppression. In case of an anaphylactic reaction, administer epinephrine. The emulsion separates rapidly and must be thoroughly mixed/re-emulsified immediately before administration.

Almacenamiento y estabilidad
Store refrigerated (2-7°C), but do not freeze. Unused product from single-use vials should be discarded after use. The emulsion 'breaks' upon standing and must be re-emulsified before administration. To re-emulsify to a milky appearance, shake vial, roll syringe between hands, or heat in hot water (150°F, 65°C).
