概要
デコキネートは、主に家畜や家禽でコクシジウム静止薬として使用される4-ヒドロキシキノロン系抗原虫薬です。スポロゾイト期で寄生虫の生活環を停止させることでコクシジウム症の予防には極めて有効ですが、成虫には無効であり、活動性の臨床感染を治療することはできません。
小動物医療における最も注目すべき適応外使用は、犬における急性期治療後のヘパトゾーン症（Hepatozoon americanum）再発の長期予防です。本薬は静止薬（殺コクシジウムではなくコクシジウム静止）であるため、抑制された寄生虫の排除は宿主の免疫系に依存します。
作用機序
Decoquinate acts specifically on the sporozoite stage of the coccidian life cycle.
- Sporozoites can still penetrate host intestinal cells, but further intracellular development is halted.
- Mechanism: It disrupts electron transport within the mitochondrial cytochrome system of the parasite → inhibits respiration and ATP energy production → prevents maturation and replication.

注意事項
Decoquinate is not effective for treating clinical coccidiosis and has no efficacy against adult coccidia. It is not FDA-approved for use in animals producing milk for food or in laying chickens.

- Clinical signs of coccidiosis or hepatozoonosis relapse
- Muscle biopsy (after 2 years of hepatozoonosis treatment in dogs to confirm clearance)

保管・安定性
Incompatible with strong bases or oxidizing material. Store in a cool, dry place, preferably in airtight containers. Deccox is compatible with bacitracin zinc, chlortetracycline, and lincomycin.
