概要
カオリンは、犬および猫の非特異的下痢の治療に使用される吸着性止瀉薬です。消化管内の水分や潜在的な毒素を結合することで便の硬さを改善する効果がありますが、下痢の根本的な原因を解決するものではありません。
臨床上の警告：カオリンが体液バランスを補正したり、罹病期間を短縮したりすることは研究で示されていません。 したがって、脱水症状のある患者に対する適切な輸液療法の代わりには決してなりません。
臨床のポイント： カオリンは、消化管の鎮静効果を高めるために、ペクチン、プロバイオティクス、または他の吸着剤（ビスマス塩や水酸化アルミニウムなど）との配合剤として頻繁に処方されます。
作用機序
Kaolin acts locally within the gastrointestinal tract as an adsorbent.
- It binds to water, toxins, and potentially enteropathogenic bacteria, preventing their systemic absorption and reducing fluid loss in the stool.
- It may also possess a mild antisecretory effect.
- Kaolin is not absorbed systemically → Excreted unchanged in the feces.

- Constipation (especially with prolonged use or high doses)
- Fecal impaction (rare)
注意事項
Normal handling precautions should be observed.
Hydration Status: Does not correct fluid balance. Ensure the patient is adequately hydrated and consider concurrent fluid therapy if clinical signs of dehydration are present. Drug Spacing: Because of its adsorbent properties, kaolin should be administered at least 2 hours apart from other oral medications to prevent decreased absorption.

過剰投与
Overdose is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity since kaolin is not absorbed. However, excessive administration may lead to severe constipation or bowel impaction. Treatment is supportive, including discontinuation of the drug, hydration, and potentially mild laxatives if impaction occurs.
