ペンタミジン
**ペンタミジン**は、主に獣医療において、犬の**リーシュマニア症**の二次治療または救済治療として使用される抗原虫薬です。特に、5価アンチモン製剤（メグルミンアンチモネートやスチボグルコン酸ナトリウムなど）に対する耐性が生じた場合に使用されます。 > **警告:** ペンタミジンは治療域が狭く、毒性の高い薬剤です。特に腎臓や肝臓に対する重篤な毒性ダメージを引き起こす可能性があるため、治療のメリットと慎重に比較検討する必要があります。 **臨床のポイント:** 毒性が高く、より安全な代替薬（アロプリノールやミルテホシンなど）が存在するため、第一選択薬として使用されることは稀です。治療を開始する前に、必ず専門家の助言を求めてください。
作用機序: Pentamidine kills protozoans by interacting with **parasite DNA**. It is rapidly taken up by the parasites via a **high-affinity energy-dependent carrier** → disrupts DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis → leads to protozoal death.

過量投与
Overdosage significantly increases the risk of severe **hypotension**, **hypoglycaemia**, **acute renal failure**, and **hepatotoxicity**. Treatment is largely supportive and symptomatic, including IV fluid therapy to support blood pressure and renal perfusion, and dextrose supplementation for hypoglycaemia.
