概要

フォルコジンはコデインの誘導体であり、鎮咳作用と軽度の鎮静作用を持ちますが、鎮痛作用はありません。コデインに比べて依存性を誘発する可能性が低いです。原因を取り除くことができず、咳が動物の健康に悪影響を及ぼしている場合（慢性気管支炎、気管虚脱など）の咳の抑制に使用されます。

作用機序

Pholcodine depresses the cough reflex by acting directly on the cough centre in the central nervous system (CNS) → suppression of the medullary cough center.

  • Constipation (less severe than codeine)
  • Anaphylaxis (reported in humans)

注意事項

Normal precautions for opiate derivatives should be observed.

​Caution:​ Ensure human combination cough syrups are not inadvertently administered if they contain toxic or unstudied active ingredients like dextromethorphan, xylitol, or paracetamol.

過剰投与

Overdose may result in exaggerated opiate effects, including severe sedation, respiratory depression, and potentially coma. Treatment is supportive; naloxone may be considered as an opioid antagonist if severe respiratory depression occurs.
