概要
セレギリン（L-デプレニル）は、うつ病や不安などの純粋に感情的な原因による行動障害の治療に認可されたモノアミン酸化酵素阻害薬です。多動、分離不安、全般性恐怖症、非社交的行動などの治療において、行動療法と併用されることがよくあります。
これらの感情障害は通常、摂食、飲水、自己刺激行動、睡眠、探索行動の変化、恐怖や苛立ちに関連する攻撃性、および身体的障害（頻脈、感情的排尿など）を特徴とします。
臨床のポイント: セレギリンは、特に不安や社会的引きこもりを伴う犬の認知機能障害（CCD）に強く適応され、高齢猫の認知機能低下の兆候の治療にも使用できます。特徴として、徐々に用量を減らす必要がなく、突然治療を中止することができます。
作用機序
Selegiline modifies the concentration of monoaminergic neurotransmitters, especially phenylethylamine and dopamine, by selectively inhibiting the activity of Type-B monoamine oxidase (MAO-B), the enzyme that normally breaks down these chemicals.
MAO-B inhibition → decreased breakdown of dopamine → increased dopamine concentrations in the CNS. It also appears to possess neuroprotective properties.
