概要
トリパンブルーは生体染色色素であり、獣医学においては主に犬バベシア症（Babesia canis）の補助治療として使用される、古くからあるが現在ではあまり使用されない抗原虫薬です。
- 臨床上のポイント: 寄生虫血症を急速に抑制し臨床症状を緩和しますが、感染を完全に排除することはできません。イミドカルブやジミナゼンなどの根治的治療薬に伴う重篤な抗コリン作用や中枢神経系毒性がないため、重症例の安定化にしばしば用いられます。
- ブリッジ治療: 治癒させることはできないため、1ヶ月以内にイミドカルブなどの薬剤による根治的治療を続ける必要があります。
- 眼科での使用: 人および獣医眼科において、水晶体前嚢（白内障手術時の前嚢切開を容易にするため）および網膜前膜を染色するための手術用色素として使用されます。
- 実験室での使用: 細胞膜が損傷した死細胞にのみ浸透するため、細胞生存率を評価するための生体染色として広く使用されています。
作用機序
- Anti-babesial action: Trypan blue blocks the C3b receptor on both the host erythrocyte membrane and the Babesia organism.
- Pathway: C3b receptor blockade → prevents the parasite from adhering to and entering the erythrocyte → halts parasite replication and suppresses parasitemia.
- Vital Dye Mechanism: As a vital stain, trypan blue is excluded from viable cells with intact cell membranes but penetrates dead or dying cells, binding to intracellular proteins.

- Bluish discoloration of skin, mucous membranes, eyes, urine, and secretions (persists for weeks)
- Teratogenesis (when used systemically)
注意事項
Strictly Intravenous: When used systemically, it must be administered IV only. Compounded solutions should be administered through an in-line filter.
- Teratogenicity: Highly teratogenic across multiple species (rats, mice, rabbits, hamsters, dogs, guinea pigs, pigs). Use in pregnant animals only if absolutely necessary.
- Nursing: Distributes into milk, causing a bluish tint. Safety in nursing offspring is not established.
- Laboratory Interference: The dye tints plasma blue, which can artificially alter photometric-based blood test results and complicate the microscopic evaluation of blood smears.

Store powder or solutions at 15-25°C (59-77°F). Protect from direct sunlight. Trypan blue for injection that is compounded from powder should be administered through an in-line filter during intravenous administration.
