크로몰린 나트륨은 주로 수의 안과에서 알레르기성 결막염 관리에 사용되는 **비만세포 안정제**입니다. 혈관 수축, 항히스타민, 시클로옥시게나제(COX) 억제 또는 기타 직접적인 항염증 특성은 없습니다. 수용체 수준에서 효과를 차단하는 것이 아니라 염증 매개체의 방출을 방지하기 때문에 예방적으로 또는 지속적으로 사용할 때 가장 효과적입니다.

작용 기전: Cromolyn sodium acts as a **mast cell stabilizer**. Upon antigen recognition, it blocks the degranulation of sensitized mast cells → prevents the release of **histamine** and **slow-reacting substance of anaphylaxis (SRS-A)** into the surrounding ocular tissues.

Overdose via the topical ophthalmic route is highly unlikely to cause systemic toxicity. Excess drops will simply wash out of the conjunctival sac.
