개요
프로리게스톤은 주로 암캐와 암고양이의 발정을 지연시키거나 억제하기 위해 수의학에서 사용되는 합성 프로게스토겐입니다. 고양이의 좁쌀 피부염 치료제로도 승인되었으나, 이 적응증에는 일반적으로 특정 글루코코르티코이드가 선호됩니다.
임상 경고: 프로리게스톤은 낭성 자궁내막 증식증(자궁축농증), 당뇨병 및 유선 종양의 발생 가능성을 포함하여 장기적인 프로게스토겐 사용의 전형적인 위험을 수반합니다. 주의해서 사용해야 하며 당뇨병이 있는 동물에게는 금기입니다.

Proligestone alters the transcription of DNA → leads to alterations in cellular metabolism → mimics the physiological effects caused by endogenous progesterone.

- Unpredictable duration of anoestrus (up to 3 years in some bitches)

주의
As coat colour changes may occasionally occur, injection into the medial side of the flank fold is recommended for thin-skinned or show animals.
Clinical Pearl: While proligestone does not appear to be associated with as many or as serious adverse effects as older progestogens (e.g., megestrol acetate, medroxyprogesterone acetate), owners must still be thoroughly counseled on the risks of pyometra and diabetes mellitus.
