概覽

Sterculia 是一種​膨脹性瀉藥​，在獸醫學中用於處理肛門腺阻塞、腹瀉、便秘，以及控制術後糞便的稠度。> ​臨床警告：​ 由於製劑接觸液體後會膨脹，因此必須搭配大量水分或濕食給藥，否則可能導致阻塞。

作用機制

Sterculia acts as a bulk-forming agent. It is inert and not absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. It absorbs water → swells to form a gelatinous mass → increases faecal mass and volume → mechanically stimulates peristalsis and promotes normal bowel movements.

  • Patients undergoing enterectomy

  • Risk of esophageal or intestinal obstruction if administered without adequate water

注意事項

During treatment, fluid should be provided or a moist diet given. As the preparations swell in contact with water, they should be administered with plenty of water available to prevent choking or gastrointestinal obstruction. Normal safety and handling precautions should be observed.

過量

Overdosage may lead to gastrointestinal obstruction or severe constipation, especially if water intake is inadequate. Treatment is supportive, focusing on rehydration and facilitating the passage of the bulk mass.
